erychan86: (Han Solo (Star Wars))

I couldn't resist.

I kind of wanted to avoid to make an Han/Leia Picspam about this episode because I'm still recovering but I feel like I needed to do it in order to go through my 5 stages of grief (I'm so dramatic sometimes). Here's the conclusion of one of my favorite love stories of all times and all galaxies.

001. Han. Go Home.
Han. Go Home... You're drunk. Sorry it's automatic for me to end the sentence this way. Anyway, Maz is a shipper so I love her! I wonder how many times Han went to her cantina right after a fight with Leia and how many time Maz said to him to go home. He always listened to her until he didn't. I wonder if Leia went to Maz looking for him. I wonder...

001.jpg

Han: I need you to get this droid to Leia.
Maz: No. You've been running away from this fight for too long. Han. Go home.
Han: Leia doesn't want to see me.

“I need you to get this droid to the Resistance…,” Han said.
“Me?” Maz said archly.
“…and the loan sounds good too.”
“I see you’re in trouble,” Maz said. “I’ll help you find passage—avoid Snoke’s hunter squads—but this journey to the Resistance isn’t mine to take, and you know it.”
“Leia doesn’t want to see me,” Han said uneasily.
“Who can blame her!” Maz exclaimed. “But this fight is about more than you and that good woman. Han, go home.”

002. You Changed Your Hair
Gotta love a man that can see you've done something to your hair. In Leia's case I must be pretty obvious when she changes style and this seems not that different to me... Maybe she kept her hair loose when they were together... I love how in the book Chewie tries to act casual and start looking at trees wishing he was anywhere but there. I loved the tension and the facet that he hugged her but it doesn't seem too much in character. I mean I can see he wanting to hug her, and maybe even kiss her, but I can't see him doing it so I prefer the movie version. I don't like the fact that C-3PO takes a while to recognize him because of the time that has passed by... that means Han and Leia stayed separated for a VERY LONG TIME and I don't like that!

002.jpg

Han: You changed your hair.
Leia: Same jacket.
Han: No, new jacket. I saw him. Leia, I saw our son. He was here.

Han waited until the Resistance transport had settled itself completely before approaching the main access. His attention fixed on the portal, he looked away only to nod down at the round figure of BB-8, who had rolled up beside him. The droid’s presence confirmed Han’s expectations. He would be surprised if either of them had guessed wrong as to who was going to exit the transport first. However, he was willing to be surprised.
He wasn’t.
Husband and wife stood regarding each other for the first time in years. Amid the smoke and drifting embers, neither said a word. Emerging from behind the figure in the portal, C-3PO walked out into the scorched field to confront the motionless droid beside Han.
“Beebee-Ate! Come here. I’m here to assist you in translating what—”
It took a moment for the countenance of the man standing beside the spherical droid to register on C-3PO’s preoccupied consciousness. A visage changed by time and altered by experience, it required a bit of additional visual processing before the protocol droid was able to link it to the images in his memory.
“Oh! Han Solo! It is I, See-Threepio! You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.” Turning to the woman standing in the transport threshold, he continued excitedly. “Look who it is! Han Solo! Isn’t that— Excuse me, Prin— uh, General. Sorry. Come, Beebee-Ate. We need to settle on a procedure for debriefing.”
The two droids moved off. Chewbacca found an excuse to study the configuration of a grove of nearby trees that had somehow survived the recent conflagration.
Breaking the awkward silence, Han finally spoke to Leia.
“You changed your hair.”
Her gaze dropped from his face. “Same jacket.”
“No. New jacket.”
Unable to stand it a moment longer, Chewie gave in to emotion. Stepping forward, he wrapped Leia in a warm embrace that momentarily resulted in her disappearance within a mass of fur. Letting her go, he moaned a few words that contained far more depth of feeling than would be apparent to an outsider unfamiliar with the Wookiee language, and boarded the transport.
Left alone again, husband and wife also embraced. Han murmured over her shoulder, “I saw him. He was here.”
Hearing this, she closed her eyes. They let the silence take them.

003. I lost you both.
Aww this scene. She wants her boys back. She always wanted them back... WTF Han why did you stayed away for so long? I can't stand it... She missed you!!! I can't even imagine how much the both of them have suffered while away from one another. Thinking that for the other it was over. I hope in episode VIII we'll find out what happened to Ben/Kylo and how Snoke brought him to the dark side. I'm not a big fan of the part of the book that has Leia saying she knew Ben was strong with the force and she knew about Snoke but she decided not to say anything to Han because he's the impatient kind. I'm reading the EU books even if they're not canon anymore and Han wants kids and he's a wonderful father, and I think that's very in character. This passage makes me think he didn't even want Ben or he wasn't a family man. I will pretend that paragraph of the book doesn't exist!

003.jpg

Han: Leia.
Leia: Don't do that.
Han: Do what?
Leia: Anything.
Han: Princesses. I'm trying to be helpful.
Leia: When did that ever help? And don't say the Death Star.

Han: Listen to me, will you? I know every time you... Every time you look me, you're reminded of him.
Leia: Do you think I want to forget him? I want him back.
Han: There's nothing more we could have done There's too much Vader in him.
Leia: That's why I wanted him to be trained with Luke. I just never should had sent him away, thats when I lost him. That's when I lost you both.
Han: We both had to deal with it in our own way. I went back to the only thing I was only good at.
Leia: We both did.
Han: We lost our son. Forever.
Leia: No. It was Snoke. He seduced our son to the dark side. But we can still save him. Me. You.
Han: If Luke couldn't reach him, how could I?
Leia: Luke is a Jedi. You're his father. There's still light in him, I know it.

He moved toward her. “Leia…”
She growled at him. “Don’t do that.”
It stopped him cold. “Do what?”
Her voice was flat. “Be nice to me.” Whirling, she stomped off. More than a little bewildered, he followed. Though he caught up to her easily, she didn’t stop, nor did she look in his direction.
“Hey, I’m here to help,” he told her.
She continued to march forward, her gaze set straight ahead. “When did that ever help? And don’t say the Death Star.”
Frustrated, he stepped out in front of her to block her path. When he spoke again, his tone softened until he was almost pleading—as much as Han Solo was capable of pleading.
“Will you just stop and listen to me for a minute? Please?”
The change in tone did more to mollify her than anything else. She eyed him impatiently. “I’m listening, Han.”
“I didn’t plan on coming here,” he explained. “I know whenever you look at me, you’re reminded of him. So I stayed away.”
She stared at him, shaking her head slowly. “That’s what you think? That I don’t want to be reminded of him, that I want to forget him? I want him back.”
What could he say to that? What possible response could he give to a willful denial of reason? “He’s gone, Leia. He was always drawn to the dark side. There was nothing we could’ve done to stop it, no matter how hard we tried.” His final words were the hardest to get out. “There was too much Vader in him.”
“That’s why I wanted him to train with Luke,” Leia said. “I just never should have sent him away. That’s when I lost him. When I lost you both.”
Han dipped his head. “We both had to deal with it in our own way.” He shrugged. “I went back to the only thing I was ever good at.”
“We both did,” Leia admitted.
He met her eyes steadily. “We’ve lost our son, forever.”
Leia bit her lower lip, refusing to concede. “No. It was Snoke.”
Han drew back slightly. “Snoke?”
She nodded. “He knew our child would be strong with the Force. That he was born with equal potential for good or evil.”
“You knew this from the beginning? Why didn’t you tell me?”
She sighed. “Many reasons. I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn’t true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you.” A small smile appeared. “You had—you have—wonderful qualities, Han, but patience and understanding were never among them. I was afraid that your reactions would only drive him farther to the dark side. I thought I could shield him from Snoke’s influence and you from what was happening.” Her voice dropped. “It’s clear now that I was wrong. Whether your involvement would have made a difference, we’ll never know.”
He had trouble believing what he was hearing. “So Snoke was watching our son.”
“Always,” she told him. “From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son toward the dark side.
“But nothing’s impossible, Han. Not even now, at this late time. I have this feeling that if anyone can save him—it’s you.”
He wanted to laugh derisively. If he did, he knew she might never speak to him again. “Me? No. If Luke couldn’t reach him, with all his skills and training, how can I?”
She was nodding slowly. “Luke is a Jedi. But you’re his father. There’s still light in him. I know it.”

004. Han's right.
Shocking!

004.jpg

Han: How do we blow it up? There is always a way to do that.
Leia: Han's right.

“Okay, so it’s impossible, and it’s big. How do we blow it up?” The attention in the room shifted to him. His expression was knowing. “I don’t care how big it is; there’s always a way to do that.”
Having cut through the science, he waited for suggestions. None were forthcoming.
“We have to wait until the technical staff have run their detailed analysis,” Wexley said. “Then, once they’ve done that—”
Leia cut him off. Han grinned, but not so she could see it. She was good at cutting people off, he knew.
“We don’t have time to wait on analyses and scientific hypotheses. Han’s right. We have to act, and act now.” He eyed her in surprise—and concealed that reaction, too.

005. I did miss you.
WHY IN THE BOOK SHE DOESN'T SAY SHE MISSED HIM? WHYYYYYYY? And what the hell did he wanted to say to her? Why are you doing this to me??? Why???

005.jpg

Leia: You know? No matter how much we fought, I always hated watching you leave.
Han: That's why I did it So you'd miss me.
Leia: I did miss you.
Han: It wasn't all bad, was it? Huh? Some of it was... good.
Leia: Pretty good.
Han: Some things never change.
Leia: True. You still drive me crazy. If you see our son, bring him home.

The voice that joined in was one that had always been able to bring him to a stop whatever he happened to be doing. He turned to see Leia approaching.
“No matter how much we fought,” she said, “I always hated watching you leave.”
He grinned. “That’s why I left. To make you miss me.”
For the first time in quite a while, she laughed freely. It was infectious, happy, and, these days, all too rare. “Well, thank you for that, anyway.”
He turned reflective. “It wasn’t all bad, was it? I know we argued a lot.” He smiled affectionately. “Maybe it’s because we both have such shy, retiring personalities. Of course, if you’d only done what I said…”
“And you’d only done what I asked,” she riposted, still smiling.
He chuckled softly. “I mean, some of it was—good.”
“Pretty good,” she agreed, nodding.
“Some things never change.”
“Yep.” She glanced downward, remembering, then met his gaze once more. “You still drive me crazy.”
“Crazy as in crazy good, or crazy as in borderline insane?”
“Probably a little of both,” she admitted.
He put his hands on her shoulders, and thirty years fell away in an instant. “Leia, there’s something I’ve been wanting to say to you for a long time.”
Fighting to hold back tears, she put a finger to his lips. “Tell me when you get back.”
He started to object, caught himself. There’d been too much arguing over the years, he knew. This time he really might not come back; the last thing he wanted was to part on even a semblance of a spat. Instead, he took her into his arms, which really was much better than arguing, or even talking. They stood like that for a long moment, holding tightly to each other.
“If you see our son,” Leia whispered, “bring him home.”
He nodded without speaking. If nothing else, in thirty years he had learned when to be quiet.

006. A shudder in the Force that lanced through her like a knife.
This just hurt. Every.Single.Time! And I'm happy in the book she actually cryes! I understand why she doesn't in the movie... Everyone is looking at her and she needs to be strong, but still... THAT'S HAN!!!

006.jpg

A rush of memories flashed through his mind: worlds and time, friends and enemies, triumphs and failures. Words he wished he had spoken and others he regretted. All gone now, lost in an instant, like the one he would never again be able to hold in his arms. Then he fell, to vanish into the depths.
On another world far, far away, a woman felt a shudder in the Force that lanced through her like a knife. She slumped into a seat, her head lowering, and started to cry.

Done! Well that was painful... I mean the last scene is still too much for me to handle. Thank God there is The Empire Strikes Back and I can always go back to it ans watch all my favorite Han and Leia Moments. If you need to get your smile back on your face here you can find the previous Han and Leia picspams:
